Terms of Service
Your kitchen, your data, your family — for life.
Welcome to Yo Chef ("Chef"). By signing in and using the app, you agree to these terms. If you don't, please don't use Chef. These terms are a contract between you and the developer of Yo Chef, reachable at team@yochef.ai.
Chef is in an invite-only pilot. The product changes often, may have bugs, and may go offline for maintenance. These terms reflect that.
1. The service
Chef is a 6pm decision engine for households who want to cook from their own kitchen but don't have the planning bandwidth. Snap a photo of your fridge, get three dinner ideas you can actually make tonight, and let Chef remember what your household likes. It uses AI vision to read fridge and receipt photos, generates recipes, and tracks inventory and household preferences in a folder it creates in your Google Drive.
Chef is informational software. It doesn't physically handle food, ship groceries, or cook anything. See the cooking and dietary disclaimer below.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of legal majority in your jurisdiction, to use Chef. By signing in, you confirm that you meet this requirement.
3. Your Google account
Chef signs you in with Google and uses the drive.file OAuth scope to read and
write a folder it creates in your Drive. You're responsible for keeping your Google account
secure. You can revoke Chef's access at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
4. Your data, your folder
The recipes, inventory, photos, preferences, and event log Chef creates live in your own
Google Drive, in a folder named YoChef/. You own them. You can read, edit, copy,
share, or delete the files yourself in the Drive UI at any time, with or without using Chef.
Chef does not claim a license over your kitchen data, your recipes, or anything else inside YoChef/. We process those files only to provide Chef's features to you. See the Privacy Policy for the full picture.
Multi-device caveat. During the pilot, two devices in the same household editing the same file simultaneously will overwrite each other (last writer wins). For now, treat the household as single-active-device — one phone or laptop driving Chef at a time. Real conflict handling is on the roadmap.
5. Our commitments
The tagline at the top of this page — your kitchen, your data, your family — for life — is a promise, not just marketing. Concretely:
- Open formats, no lock-in. Everything Chef writes is plain markdown and
JSONL. You can open the files in any text editor, hand them to any other AI agent, or import
them into a future product without us in the middle. Chef writes an
AGENTS.mdschema file into your folder so other agents can read your kitchen on day one. - Your folder, your account. The data lives in your Google Drive under your own account. If you stop using Chef, the folder stays put. There is no Chef-side database of your kitchen to get locked out of.
- Data-format stability. Pre-1.0, we may change file formats and would prefer
not to break your data along the way. After 1.0, any change to the data formats inside
YoChef/will come with a migration path so the kitchen you've already built keeps working. The 1.0 release is what marks "safe to commit your kitchen long-term." - Leave any time. Sign out, revoke Drive access, or close the tab forever. Your folder is unaffected. Take it elsewhere.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use Chef to break the law or to facilitate harm to others.
- Probe, scan, or interfere with the service's infrastructure or security.
- Submit content (in feedback, photos, or recipe inputs) that you don't have the right to share, or that's defamatory, harassing, or designed to elicit harmful AI output.
- Resell, sublicense, or repackage Chef as your own product.
- Share your access code with people outside the pilot invite.
7. Cooking and dietary disclaimer
Read this carefully. Recipes, ingredient suggestions, storage advice, and expiration estimates from Chef are AI-generated and informational only. They are not a substitute for safe food handling, common sense, or professional medical, dietary, or allergy advice.
You are solely responsible for:
- Safe food handling — cooking temperatures, cross-contamination, storage times, and recognizing spoiled ingredients. When in doubt, throw it out.
- Allergens and dietary restrictions — confirming that a recipe is safe for everyone in your household before cooking it. AI can hallucinate ingredients and miss allergens.
- Medical conditions — consult a qualified professional for nutrition or medical advice. Chef is not a medical or nutritional service.
If you have severe allergies or medical conditions, do not rely on Chef alone to plan meals.
8. AI output
Chef calls third-party AI providers (currently OpenAI, Google Gemini, and ElevenLabs) to generate recipes, parse photos, transcribe voice notes, and produce spoken replies. AI output can be wrong, biased, or strange. Don't treat it as fact. Verify anything that matters.
The voice you hear when Chef speaks back is a custom voice cloned by ElevenLabs from a real person (one of the project's contributors, with their consent) and used only as Chef's reading voice. It is a synthetic rendering, not a recording, and not a representation that this person is endorsing any particular recipe or suggestion you hear.
9. Pilot status, no warranty
Chef is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including (without limitation) warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, non-infringement, or uninterrupted operation.
During the pilot, Chef may change features, take the service down, rotate access codes, or end the pilot entirely without notice. Your Drive folder remains yours regardless.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the developer of Yo Chef will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages arising from your use of Chef — including (without limitation) lost data, lost profits, food spoilage, allergic reactions, illness, or property damage.
For any direct damages, total liability is capped at one hundred US dollars (USD $100), or the amount you paid us in the past twelve months, whichever is greater. (During the pilot, Chef is free, so this is effectively $100.)
11. Intellectual property
The Chef name, logo, app design, and source code are owned by the developer. You receive a personal, non-transferable, revocable license to use the app for its intended purpose during the pilot. Recipes and content Chef generates for you, written into your Drive folder, belong to you to use however you'd like, including outside Chef.
12. Termination
You can stop using Chef at any time — sign out, revoke Drive access, and (optionally) delete
the YoChef/ folder. We can rotate the access code or end the pilot for any reason;
if we do, your Drive folder stays put.
13. Changes to these terms
If we change these terms in any way that affects your rights or obligations, we'll update the date at the top and prompt you to re-accept the next time you sign in. Cosmetic edits won't trigger a re-prompt.
14. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Arizona, USA, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute arising from these terms or your use of Chef will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Maricopa County, Arizona.
